The site is located in the village of Yukari Erhaci in the center of Igdir. It is some 5 km to the south of Hazine Tepe. It was investigated in 2002 by C. Marro and A. Özfirat during the Pre-Classical Survey in Eastern Turkey. The function if the site is not very clear; it was probably used as a small necropolis during the Iron Age. A dozen of Late Chalcolithic sherds were found scattered in and near a natural cavity created by the lava. The sherds were dated to the Amuq F phase [Marro-Özfirat 2003:390]. It is suggested that the cavity may have served as some kind of rock tomb; but no traces of bones were evidenced. |
