It is a hill located northeast of Yurtbagi (Mercihamis) Village; 3 km north of Karkamis district center in Gaziantep province. Mercihamis Tepe is at an altitude of 382 m and has a commanding view of Euphrates. It lies to the south of the new village cemetery and southeast of Karkamis Dam. The village road passes between the cemetery and the hill. It will not be affected by the dam lake. This site was discovered in 2000 by a team leaded by H. Taskiran during the project of "The Palaeolithic Survey in the Carchemish Dam Reservoir Region" coordinated by METU TAÇDAM (Center for Research and Assessment of the Historic Environment). It has the characteristics of the Lower and Middle Palaeolithic Periods. Chipped stone tools were encountered on he summit and the slopes of the hill. The 27 pieces of finds collected have the characteristics of the Lower and the Middle Palaeolithic Periods. Code W48/54.
