The site is located in the city of Gaziantep; Karkamis district. The place; which is called Büyükyer; is in the south of Karadere stream; situated 100 m southwest of point where Keleklioglu (Sara); Gürçay road passes over Karadere stream. The site is about 350-400 m east of Karadere I Palaeolithic find spot [Taskiran 2002:419]. This site was discovered in 2000 by a team leaded by H. Taskiran during the project of "The Palaeolithic Survey in the Carchemish Dam Reservoir Region" coordinated by METU TAÇDAM (Center for Research and Assessment of the Historic Environment). Though material is not abundant; five bifaced tools and five cores belonging to the low Palaeolithic were found [Taskiran 2002:419]. Code W48/40. |
