It lies on a plain; immediate south of the Iznik-Mekeçi motorway; some 4 km east of Iznik; northeast of Bursa Province. It is located northwest of Çiçekli (Köristan/Gülistan) village; on the northern bank of Kirandere (Karandere) Stream. This area and the mound are locally known as Üyücek. It measures 150x5 m. It was called Üyücek-Köristan by K. Bittel; Üyücektepe by J. Mellaart and Gülistan by C.A. Burney. It was also investigated by J. Cullberg; D.H. French and M. Özdogan. Gray; black or brown colored; mica-tempered; burnished and washed pottery collected from the surface belongs to the EBA II and III. In addition; gray washed ware was recovered. Also found is the material dating from the second millennium BC. It was revisited during the Iznik Survey by M. Sahin et al. in 2006. The mound is approximately 150x150 m, and 8 m high [Sahin et al. 2008:13].
