Location: The site is 22.5 km southeast of the city of Ankara and the district of Haymana; 1 km west of the village of Yenice. It lies 300 m northwest of the site of Ayvaz Höyük I; which yielded Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age finds [Omura 1995:229]. |
Geography and Environment: The site is an open air site which extends 70 m north-south and 85 m east-west [Omura 1995:229]. |
History: |
Research and Excavation: The site was discovered in 1993 during a surface survey in the Ankara and Konya provinces conducted by the Kaman Kalehöyük excavation team and directed by S. Omura. |
Stratigraphy: The pottery collected from Ayvaz Höyük II have been assigned to the Early Bronze Age; to the Chalcolithic and the Neolithic periods [Omura 1995:229]. |
Small Finds: Most of the pottery collected during the survey includes black ware which can most probably be assigned to the Neolithic period. The researchers indicate that these sherds are very different from the chaff tempered sherds collected from the nearby Ayvaz Höyük I [Omura 1995:229; 231]. |
