The project was supported by The Ephesus Foundation founded an American, G.B. Quatmann. During these excavations the north of the basilica and the baptistry at the south of the basilica were unearthed. Gate of Persecution (Takip Kapisi in Turkish) was also restored during this period. After a 12 year interlude, excavations were resumed by the Directorate of Efes Museum in 1974 and were carried out until 2006. Since 2007 M. Büyükkolanci from Pamukkale University has been in charge of the excavations at Ayasuluk Tepesi [http://www.ayasulukkazilari.org/, 11.02.2019; 13:36]. 6 layers were exposed in the southeast of inner castle. Troia I type of sherds recovered from the 6th layer; which is just above the bedrock. A decorated handle and a bowl incised both on the exterior and the interior are among these. Depending on these finds; a settlement contemporary to Kumtepe Ib; is expected either below the 6th layer or in the vicinity.
