Location: This site is located in the Adiyaman province; near the town of Sambayat 27 km west-southwest of the city. Archaeological literature has referred to the site as "Sampayadi"; the name given by Pittard; who discovered the site.
Geography and Environment: No geographical information is provided on the area.
History:
Research and Excavation: The site was discovered by E. Pittard during his 1937 and 1938 surveys of southeast Anatolia and the district of Sambayat. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Stratigraphy:
Small Finds: The tools reported to be made of flint have not been dated or typologically characterized by Pittard. The placement of this site in the Palaeolithic should be viewed with scepticism.
