It stands on a natural hill located south of the Pazaryeri-Bozüyük motorway; about 2.5 km east of Pazaryeri District; Bilecik Province. It is locally known as Karaagaç Mevkii. It measures 75x5 m. It was discovered in 1955 by J. Mellaart under the name of Pazarcik; and also investigated by D.H. French and T. Efe afterwards. The survey conducted by D.H. French yielded pottery of the burnished ware with a black exterior surface and a red; brown or buff interior surface called Yenisehir Pottery as well as gray or black colored; burnished ware called Troy I type of Iznik pottery belonging to the EBA. Forms of bowls and dishes are common. The survey conducted by T. Efe refers only to the EBA III material collected from Pazaryeri I. Also recovered are materials of the Late Chalcolithic Age and the second millennium BC. |
