It lies to the north of the road running to Nergiz Village; 1 km east of Pamukçu Village of Merkez District; south of Balikesir Province. Ikizce stream flows on its eastern side and there is another stream called Ovaköy to the west. It consists of two mounds. Pamukçu the South measures 100x2 m while Pamukçu the North measures 100x7 m in dimensions. 200 m west of the northern mound lies an EBA cemetery. It was discovered by D.H. French in 1959. It is possible that the settlement called Nargiz by J. Stewart in 1938 was; actually; Pamukçu. During the Balikesir survey conducted by M. Özdogan in 1987; it was investigated under the name of Boyalik Tepe. The EBA; LBA; Antique Age and Middle Age materials were collected from the northern mound while only EBA and LBA materials were collected from the southern. EBA pottery is tempered with grit and mica in black; gray and brown colors; burnished and sometimes washed. Also recovered is typical red washed and burnished pottery of Western Anatolia. Forms of bowls are common. Code K 8/2-4. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
