The mound lies south of Incetarla (Mercin) Village; north of Adana-Osmaniye highway; 6 km northeast of Ceyhan District; east of Adana Province. It is a low mound with a height of 5 m; on the surface of which are calcareous blocks. This Halafian settlement Ðone of the few in Çukurova (Cilicia)Ñ is discovered in 1951 by M.V. Seton-Williams. Obsidian blades and sherds in Ubaid and Coba wares are collected from the surface. The mound yields other finds that hint settling from EBA to Byzantine Period. It was researched within the scope of "Adana (Ceyhan) and Kayseri (Develi) Surveys" performed by S. Girginer et al. in 2005. It was found that the mound surface which is 100x200 m; was used for agriculture; and that it was about to be leveled. It is assumed that these fields were the cemetery of the mound; based on the large jar fragments found on the southern skirts of the mound. The sherds that were gathered completely belong to the Chalcolithic Age; and obsidian as well as silex tool and production waste was also revealed [Girginer 2007:175]. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
