It lies 1.5 km southwest of Türkeli Village; western shore of the Avsa Island. A large part of it was submerged. It was discovered in 1980's by S. Izer; and investigated by M. Özdogan in detail during a survey conducted in the region. Also a team of divers under N. Günsenin carried out a survey on the submerged part of the mound in 1995. A summer house belonging to S. İzer is located on the top hill [Günsenin 1996:fig.9]. Remains of a monastry are visible nearby. Eight EBA vessels were found in a well in in situ position. Özdogan reported that the site had been continously inhabited from Kumtepe Ib to Troy VII b2 based upon the materials collected from the surface of the mound; the shore and the well. |
