The mound is located south of Aydin; in Koçarli district; and close to Çiftliktepe village. It lies 100 m northeast of the highway; right after the turn to Çakirbeyli. It is a low and spreading hill in the north-south direction measuring 30x40 m and has a height of 5 m. E. Akdeniz has collected Late Chalcolithic Age; EBA I; and Roman Period sherds from the surface of the mound in 1995. The site was visited by S. Günel in 2002 and the surface material consists of handmade and coarse sherds. They also include red slipped and burnished examples with pieces probably belonging to bowl and large pots which are more likely to be dated to the EBA. Excavations were launched by the Directorate of Aydin Museum in 2014. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
