The mound lies in the vicinity of Karahöyük Village; 13 km northwest of Reyhanli District; northeast of Hatay. It was close to the shore Ðprevious to the dessicationÑ of Amuq Lake. North of the mound flows Afsin Stream and west is Hatay-Kirikhan motorway. Kiztepe; also known by the name Imar al-Jadid al Garbi; was discovered during the 1936 survey conducted by R.J. Braidwood from The University of Chicago. From the surface of this small; low and broad mound surrounded by fertile fields; Chalcolithic Age and Medieval Period sherds were collected. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
