It is situated exactly in the center of Karahöyük Village; 5 km east of Akören or Akviran District; south of Konya Province. It is a big mound. It measures 35 m in height and 300x250 m in dimensions. It was discovered by J. Mellaart; and visited by D. H. French and H. Bahar. A continuous erosion removed almost 1/10 of it. It is also used as the cemetery of the modern village. The site had been inhabited more or less continuously from the Chalcolithic Age to the Roman Period. It is called Karahöyük II or Akören Karahöyük. Sherd of a plate collected by H. Bahar from the surface is akin to the EBA III of Gözlükule while the painted sherd is similar to the EBA II of the same settlement. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
