There are remains of a structure and a sanctuary in the east of Asagi Mazi Quarter, in Mazi Village, in Mumcular Town of Bodrum District, in Mugla Province. The building remains are dated to the Archaic Period. Only an L shaped wall measuring 5x9 m remained from the building. The wall was erected with large blocks in the drystone wall technique and is preserved up to 2-2.50 m high. The open-air sanctuary on the hill was carved into the bedrock. The sanctuary consists of a rock-cut vessel that is accessible with steps and a niche with 3 hinge holes. It is considered as a reflection of Urartian and Phrygian open-air sanctuaries. It is dated to the Roman Period. It is registered in the Cultural Inventory of Mugla Province [Mugla KE III.2 2013: 1526-7]. |
