The fortress is located at a height of 1614 m, on the foothill of Mount Munzur, 35 km southeast of Merkez District in Erzincan Province. It was investigated during the survey conducted by Alpaslan Ceylan and his team in 2014. It extends in the north-south direction. There is a water resource flowing from the skirts of the fortress. Large agricultural fields and woods surround it. It overlooks the Erzincan Plain and is under the protection of steep slopes. It was built in the cyclopean technique. There is a cistern, which is believed to extend towards the summit, on the skirts of it. The entrance of the cistern is 3 m high, and it gets lower towards the inner sections. There is an opening, which is believed to reach the stairs, at the end of the cistern. Rock steps, called "pseudo-steps" surrounds all around the fortress and these steps are quite visible on the upper sections. They were built in double-stair system. The western walls facing to Kalecik Village can be easily seen. Quite a little pottery sherds were found. Based on the construction technique of the fortress, they are dated to Middle IA [Ceylan et al. 2016:453-4].
