During the survey carried out in Kaleyikigi Hill in the west of Gölköy by A. Diler and his team in 2013, a necropolis belonging to Early IA was discovered. The burial platform found in this area known as Mandira Kayasi is similar to those found in Pedasa and Termera in terms of plan and building technique. This burial platform measures 22x9 and contains 10 capstones belonging to urn pits prepared for cremation burials. The depth of these cremation pits ranges from 0.70x0.36 m to 0.26 m. Rounded graves and rock-cut tombs were found in this area as well [Diler et al. 2015:429]. |
Location: The ruins situated on a hill above the Turkbuku Cove; and Asagi Lake; north of the Bodrum District of the Mugla Province probably belong to the ancient city of Madnasa. It is located 13 km northeast of the ancient city of Myndus. |
Geography and Environment: The city was possibly founded on the edge of a slope separated by a deep valley from Karadag to the south. |
