It lies immediate north of the village of Dalyan; south of Kurudere on the shore of the Aegean Sea. In 1967; J. Cook found pottery belonging to the prehistoric periods. J. Mellaart analyzed and dated this pottery to the second millennium BC and the EBA (Troy I). Excavations started in 2005 were conducted under the joined directory of E. Schwertheim and H. Wiegartz until 2009. After a two year interlude, excavations started in 2011. Since 2011, E. Öztepe has been in charge of the excavations at Aleksandria Troas. It can not be located exactly in the ancient site. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
