Location: This rock-shelter site is southwest of the city of Antalya; in the district of Arpalik; northwest of the village of Beldibi. It is 8 km from the Kumbucagi Rock-Shelter in the valley west of it. It cannot be ascertained whether the distance is measured as the crow flies or by highway.
Geography and Environment: Bostanci provides no further information on the geographic positioning of this rock-shelter.
History:
Research and Excavation: The site was discovered in 1959 by Enver Bostanci; who reported that the rock-shelter had wall paintings in it which were made using reddish pigments from iron oxide-rich soil. Although we are informed that there are seven wall paintings depicting crosses; we do not know their sizes or their relationships to one another. The crosses are all shaped differently. Three of them are simple symmetric crosses; an additional two are off-centered crosses; one with a short vertical and a long horizontal and the other the reverse. Another cross has "v" shaped edges while the remaining cross is encircled. The researcher believes that the crosses are prehistoric representations and comments especially on the circled cross which he believes is a symbolic form that first appears in the Epipalaeolithic and remains until historic times. Bostanci further reports that the cross with the v-shaped edges represents the number 12 and that it demonstrates that 12 people must have lived in the cave [Bostanci 1978:fig 11].
Stratigraphy:
Small Finds: There were no finds on the floor of the rock shelter. Although Bostanci dug test trenches in and around many of the surrounding rock-shelters; this is not one of the excavated ones.
