Location: It is near the village it was named after; 35 km east of the Kirsehir Province.
Geography and Environment: It is reported to measure 8-10 m in height and 400x300 m in dimensions as an oval hill. It has not been damaged much.
History:
Research and Excavation: It was introduced in 1929 by von der Osten; and excavated in 1931 under L. Delaporte for one season only. A small sounding was carried out in 1943 by H. Çambel in the name of the Turkish Historical Society to verify the outcomes of first excavation. The result of Delaporte's excavation was partly published; however almost no information was provided about the excavation of H. Çambel. The finds of the former excavation are preserved at the Ankara Museum of Anatolian Civilizations whereas the finds of the latter at the Laboratory of Prehistoric Department; Faculty of Literature; University of Istanbul. The excavated area is reported to be 80x5-10 m in total. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Stratigraphy: An area of 80x5-10 m was excavated. It is reported that 15.2 m depth was reached. Three main levels were revealed: 1. Late Chalcolithic Age level on the virgin soil 2. EBA level 3. Level containing Hittite and Phrygian Period finds.
Small Finds: Pottery: Sherds of black burnished ware; resembling the Late Chalcolithic Age of Alisar; were recovered.
Remains:
Interpretation and Dating: The excavation results of this important mound of the Central Anatolia were not published in detail. Finds of Delaporte's excavation are kept in the Anatolian Civilizations Museum at Ankara; and the finds of Çambel's excavation are being preserved in the Prehistory Labarotory of the Faculty of Letters in the University of Istanbul.
