Location: This site is 15 km North of Taşlıçay Suburb of Ağrı City. The pond is 2,240 m above the sea level on average and is located on the South-western Slope of Sinek Plateau. Yukarı Toklu Village is the nearest modern settlement to the pond which is 6 km South of the site [Belli 2011:205].
Geography and Environment: Sinek Plateau is one of the most important plateaus of Mount Ararat and being used for summer pasture by demi-nomad societies since early 2nd Millennium BC. Many cairns in close approximation belong to 3rd or 2nd Millennium BC and many are illicitly excavated [Belli 2011:205].
History: The age of the pond is determined as 7th Century BC [Belli 2011:206].
Research and Excavation: It was documented during the survey carried out in 2009 by O. Belli.
Stratigraphy:
Small Finds: The Ganiye Hane Pond is created by the strong water sources unearthing around it. Snow and rain also helps build up the pond. The wall of the pond is covering the South-eastern side though the length, the width, and the height are unknown due to the damage caused by the heavy machinery. The stones are obtained from the rich andesite reserves in the surrounding area. It is observed that the joints of the stones are smoothened although roughly. Some of the water flowing to Ishano River for many centuries is now fulfilling the need of water of mountain grasslands reaching the Southwest via a new channel [Belli 2011:205-206].
