It was near the road running to Merdi Village; 2 km southwest of Karatilbe Quarter; east of Adiyaman Province. It was a small; conic mound. It measured 6 m in height and 35 m in diameter. It has been flooded by the Atatürk Dam. It was documented during a survey conducted by M. Özdogan in 1977 aiming to locate the findspots that will remain beneath the waters of the dam. It was located on a small shore plain on the first terrace of the Euphrates. Majority of the Halaf and Obeid Period sherds collected from the surface exposed that it was in fact a settlement of the Chalcolithic Age. The EBA sherds were recovered from the northern foothill only. They were rare. It is suggested that it was a seasonal settlement for EBA. It is coded under T 52 - 20. It takes place in the registered archaeological sites list prepared by Ministry of Culture and Tourism. |
