The fortress which is in the north of Günindi Village which is 20 km northeast of Kagizman District of Kars was founded on a natural rock. It was discovered during the survey by A. Ceylan et al. in 2007. There are cliffs in south, west and east directions of the fortress, and the north and northwest directions consist of plateaus, these directions are also the weak parts of its defense system. Particularly these directions were fortified during the construction of the fortress. The fortress gate is in northeast direction. This section contains architectural remains suggesting the presence of a tower. These walls that were built in cyclopean technique contain bastions and curtains. The sherds collected at the fortress date to Middle Iron Age [Ceylan 2009:139]. |
