Gedikli Kalesi

Fortress
Altitude:
m
Region:
Eastern Anatolia
Province:
Igdir
District:
Tuzluca
Village:
Aslanli
Investigation Method:
Survey
Period:

It is situated on a very high hill north of Aslanli Village 27 km south of Tuzluca District in Igdir. The north and east directions of the fortress provide features which are effective for the defense of the structure. The south and west are weaker in this sense. Asserting that it was built for controlling the valley extending in the north of the fortress may be correct. It covers an area approximately of 400 - 500 m2, and faces the depths of the valley in the north. In the east direction is the Doganyurt Stream. The fortress walls were built with drywall technique, and the the surfaces of the wall stones facing outside were roughly touched. The stones that were placed behind those are smaller. The fortress is a typical Iron Age structure in terms of construction technique [Ceylan 2009:137].
