It is situated in the Çeperli Village of Kagizman District in Kars Province. It was researched during the Erzincan-Erzurum, Kars-Igdir Provinces Survey performed by Ceylan et al. in 2006. The citadel was built of large size stone blocks and it is assumed that the bailey also existed. The wall thickness at the citadel is approximately 3 m, made using cyclopean technique. The front surfaces of the blocks were touched and the rear surfaces were left untouched. The construction was executed very elaborately. The citadel gate is facing east. Tecnically the square plan was abandoned. Very small amount of sherds were found. The most important characteristic of the citadel is the usage of large blocks of stones. But there is a central fortress as well. This fortress has walls composed of saw teeth formed stone blocks, which was supposedly made for defensive purposes. The small fortress was possibly used as a sanctuary. The fortress is accessed through the roads in south and northwest directions. There are structures possessing oval plans in the south of the fortress. There is another oval building north of the fortress which probably was built for defense. Among the sherds there is Urartu ware. Structurally the fortress has the characteristics of a typical Early Iron Age architecture. Mortar was used on fortress walls [Ceylan et al. 2008:137]. |
