Dedeli fortress is south of Patnos in Agri Province. It was surveyed by A. Özfirat et al. in 2006. Northwest of Dedeli County lies the necropolis on the high rocky hill, at the fortress skirts. The fortress was discovered by B. Ögün and excavations were performed on some of the destroyed burials. V. Sevin surveyed the Urartu graves on the skirt. The wall with the rectangular plan and projecting support was built using medium size stones. The encompassing wall length is 85 m in the northwest, 30.5 m in the northeast, 25.5 m in the southwest, and its thickness is 2.4 m. The southeast direction is very steep and the wall in this direction can not be observed. The necropolis is on the west and north skirts of the fortress. Rectangular planned single burials with walls built by laying stones were identified besides the Urartu type burial rooms previously surveyed. There is a single kurgan on the high hill west of the fortress. The stacked stones of the Kurgan consists of small unworked stones and was encompassed by two courses of stones measuring10 and 6 m, which are concentric. The sarcophagus built with large cover stones is in the second line. Kurgan, was dated to Early /Middle Iron Age alongside the fortress due to structural characteristics. This kurgan, is an example to kurgan burial tradition which is very rare around Van Lake encatchment area. The fact that it arises alone on a high hill probably point out at its importance. Coded M69/13 [Ozfırat 2008:200-202].
