It is situated 4 km south of Findikli Village, that is 17 km southeast of Tercan District in Erzincan, at 1703 m altitude. It was surveyed by A. Bingöl et al. in 2008. The studies suggested that it is a complex of structures consisting of a central mine, a settlement and a fortress. Settlement remains are located 200 m west of the mine. A fortress was built at a strategical location south of the settlement. The Urartian fortress of Sirinlikale is 10 km south of the fortress. The Medieval Age Maden Fortress possibly was the region's mine processing center. Sherds that dated to this period were collected in the fortress [Bingöl et al. 2010:382-383]. |
