It is located in the Sehitlik Village of Intepe, approximately 10 km southwest of Çanakkale. Based on several electrons depicted with cocks and silver coins supposedly circulated during the 7th-6th centuries, which are probably belonging to the city, and the ceramic finds, it appears that the city had been inhabited at least since the Mytileneans settled on the shores of Troad. No further information is available about the city. She is an independent city, which paid a tribute of one talent to the Delian League. Majortiy of the coins are from the 4th century BC [Göktürk 1995:76]. J.M. Cook mentions ceramics found around Dardanos, referring both to his own observations and previous archaeologists who visited the region. According to him, there are grey ceramics dated to the 7th century BC in the region. Cook also indicates presence of oil amphoras of Attican production from the 8th century BC and early 7th century BC among many sherds he analyzed and absence of any sherds from the Geometric Period. Amon other ceramics are bowl with rosette and bird bowl from the Archaic Period and Classical Period ceramics with red figures [Cook 1973:58-59]. In 1989, T. Özcan et al from the Museum of Çanakkale conducted a salvage excavation of a necropolis in a mound lying to the east of the Çanakkale-Intepe motorway. Investigations in the vicinity by this team revealed that it is the necropolis of the ancient city of Dardanos. Based on this, presence of burial traditions such as tumulus, terracotta, stone sarcophagus, pithoi and cremation is evident in the ancient city of Dardanos. Among the grave finds are bowls, hair pins, 2 alabasters in whetstone, figurines and decorated dye vessel with features specific to the 5th century BC [Özkan 1991:113-115].
