Lying on hilltop and southern slopes of Karatepe to the south of the Küner Village, it is a terrace settlement with some being prominent. The settlement located on the banks of a small stream and spring was probably enclosed by a wall. The fortifications which might belong to a small ancient city can be partly traced. The sherds collected from the surface are dated from the 5th century to the 1st century AD. It is believed that this small Ionian city may have been the ancient city of Oroanna, which was referred in a Delos inscription dating to the 2nd century BC, and should have been located between Teos ile Kolophon [Meriç 1987:301-302]. |
