Three elevations so called Siratepeler lie 2 km southwest of the Karatepe Village. The elevation at the center, which is called Büyüktepe, includes sherds from the settlements during the Early Bronze Age, 2 nd Millennium BC, Iron Age and Roman Period. The Iron Age pottery consists of Early Iron Age and Middle Iron Age sherds with painted decoration. The mound is 20 m high above the plain level with a base diameter of 70 m. It appears that Büyüktepe have been substantially destroyed by the Gümüs Stream running to the north and by treasure hunters. |
