The Bingöl Mountains, which lie within the borders of the Solhan District in Bingöl, 2500-3000 m high above the sea level, are not easily accessible by vehicle as they are rocky. This road was regularly used during the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, even Early Republic Periods. In 1985, an ancient road was discovered in the same highlands, and it is close to the Solhan District of Bingöl, strecthing up to the skirts of the Bingöl Mountains. The 5 m wide road was lined with large stones on both sides, and paved with cobble stones. At first sight, it resembles the Roman roads, however no remains dating to this period have been found alongside the road. |
