Province:

Çildir

Period:

It is located 750 m southwest of the Yildirimtepe (Rabat) Village, northwest of the Çiildir Plain, south of Karaçay, 2 km north of the Çildir District in Ardahan. It is 150 m high above the stream bed, and 2000 m above the sea level. Many architectural remains including coarsely dressed large andesite blocks are observed in the fortress. They mainly have walls with a thickness of 1.5-1.7 m. Intensely on the southern section, these remains are obviously larger than the ones in other sections. While the fortress was founded on a natural and wide hill, it has been heavily destroyed as a result of its closeness to the district center of Çildir, water depots built on it, and communication poles, and the Çildir-Ardahan motorway crossing its skirt. Majority of the ceramic finds include sherds from the Chalcolithic Age, Early Bronze Age, Iron Age and incised decorated sherds of the Middle Age. Among the finds are also obsidians.
