It is a volcanic lake on the immediate southern skirt of the 4050 m high Mount Süphan, northwest of the Lake Van in the Adilcevaz District of Bitlis. It is a combinaton of the waters originating from numerous sources around the Lake Aygir, and snow and rain waters flowing down the high hills. It is believed that the Aygir Water was used to irrigate the agricultural areas during the Urartu Kingdom. The Urartian irrigation channel should have been 65-70 m long. The conic-shaped ceramic pipes, which were found in good condition, are 2 cm thick in average and 57 cm long. The paste is fine grit tempered, and very well fired. Similar pipes are seen in the expansion area of the Urartu Kingdom for now. Although it was found out that the hill to the immediate southwest of the lake used to be an ancient settlement, at present it is a flat hill, being cultivated.
