It rests on a rocky area at the 18th km of the Erzurum-Kars motorway on the left side of the road, 2-3 km south of the Asboga (Kirankaya) Village, northeast of the Sarikamis District in Kars. The fortress covers a substantially wide area. In north-south direction, it is 1925 m high above the sea level. The eastern wall, which was erected with large blocks using the dry wall technique, is still partly extant. The entrance was most probably from the south. As it has been heavily destroyed, it is not possible to obtain exact dimensions, but it rests on a hill rising between two valleys and overlooking both of them, with a triangular plan. Walls erected with large blocks are lined up in two rows to the east. Some researchers lokalized Ahuria-ni mentioned in the inscriptions of Argisti I with Sarikamis while others with the Kirankaya Fortress. To the east is a dried stream as well as some others running from west and flowing towards the north. Among the finds are abundant number of amorphous and formed ceramics dating to the Iron Age as well as obsidians in raw and processed forms.
