Remains of thick city walls observed on a steep hill and its western slopes near the Beyköy Village of the Emiralem Subdistrict indicate presence of a significant Aeolian city here. Ceramic finds collected from the surface date back to the 6th century BC and mid 4th century BC. On the western slope of the hill many terrace walls and traces of foundations for residences are observed. Asarliktepe had been inhabited for a short period time, and it can be identified with Cilla, an uncertain Aeolian site. Many rock graves were found around the settlement [Meriç 1986:200]. |
