| It is located in the area where the modern Erdek District of Balikesir is situated now to the northeast of Cyzicus. It was colonized by Miletus during the second half of the 7th century BC [Sevin 2001a:49]. Being named as a Milesian colony by Anaximenes of Lampsakos, nothing survived to the present day from the settlement [Gorman 2001:246]. Following an earthquake in 543 AD, the political entity of Cyzicus became highly reduced, and inhabitants of the city moved to Artake [Yaylali 1991:178]. |
