It is located in the Burhaniye District of Balikesir. The ancient city of Adramyttium has been referred in several publications since the 17th century. Des Mouceaux, a priest and a traveller, mentioned the magnificient ruins he saw in 1668 in the region. The information provided by this priest was included in a work called "Voyages de Corneille Le Buryn" published in Paris in 1725 by himself [Beksaç 2003:85]. The excavations launched by E. Beksaç were carried out by T. Çoruhlu. Kuvay-i Milliye Museum has been conducting excavations at the site at intervals. Excavations were carried out on an area which constitute the summit of a rocky elevation called Ören Tepe during the 2001 campaign. The excavations yielded ceramics from the Iron Age and prior to the Hellenistic Period [Beksaç 2003:87]. The excavations conducted in the ancient city of Adramytteion, which has been obscured by the summer houses of the modern Ören settlement and historic data obtained demonstrate that Adramytteion was a significant settlement of the Ancient Age. During the surveys, finds from the Early Iron Age were collected, indicating that the present area of the city had been occupied in the later periods and particularly flourished after the 5th century BC. [Beksaç 2003:85]. The excavations during the 2004 campaign yielded ceramics, oil-lamps and metal finds [Çoruhlu 2006:229-238]. The sounding studies carried out in the years of 2012 and 2013 show that the settlement dates back to the Chalcolithic Period [Özgen 2014:27].
