It is situated 26 km east of Bingöl to the immediate south of the Bingöl-Mus motorway. To the west and south of the settlement flows a stream .The land on which the Zulumtepe ruins are located lies on a small hill with steep slopes declining gradually from west to east in western and southern directions. The eastern and northeastern sections have been well preserved until present. Although the southern and western walls are almost invisible, it is like a rectangular building, measuring 87x44 m in dimensions with mainly four corner risalits. There are supportive projections of 2.8x0.7 m at 7.5 m and 7.8 m intervals on the enclosure walls to the northeast. Although the eastern walls are not so regular, it is pierced by a tower-like profile near the mid-section. The enclosure walls built in block wall technique are 3.2 m thick. The exterior surfaces of the walls were erected with large rectangular blocks in a more elaborate masonry while rough and irregular stones were used in the interior surfaces. A majority of the Zulumtepe pottery consists of light brick red paste, and rarely dark buff paste, where the pastes are moderately tempered, slightly burnished and medium-baked. They are wheelmade, and they bear wheel traces on the surface. Overall, the fortress bears typical Urartian characteristics.
