It is situated 8 km north of the Erzurum-Erzincan motorway, 30 km east of Erzincan. The dam was built to irrigate the fruit and vegetable gardens in the region during the Urartian Period. Built in terraces in a region extending from the south of the high hills to the north of the Erzurum-Erzincan Plain in east-west direction until the Erzincan Plain, it is supplied from the melting snow and rain water from the high hills, and water springs such as the Cimin stream. Although it has been destroyed throughout the centuries due to earthquakes, it still functions. It has a half- moon shape, measuring 39 m in lenght, and 2 m in width. At present it is surrounded by 1-1.5 m high walls. The floodgate of 50x50 cm lies to the south.
