| It is situated on the Kayacik Hill, 2-3 km from the Görece Village, 5 km after diverting to the left from Emiralem on the Menemen-Manisa motorway. The city is situated on a plain ground between the acropolis which is very steep on four sides and the Çerkez Çamtepesi Hill to the north. The ruins of the lower town are mostly under the ground. The whole area is covered with trees. No systematic survey or excavation has been carried out in the ancient city of Temnos yet [Doger 1998:274]. There is a city wall made of polygonal stones with a highest point of ca. 3 m, and a preseved lenght of 300 m on the very steep western slopes of the acropolis. A watchtower made of rectangular stones rises on the northwestern corner of the polygonal wall. It should have been built during the 5th-4th centuries BC and reinforced during the Hellenistic Period [Doger 1998:275]. The earliest find revealed is a fragment of a Geometric Period bowl dating to the 8th century BC [Doger 1998:272]. The ruins seen alongside the road to the wood belong to the cemetery of the city. |
