The fortress is located on a high hill, 600 m west of the Sinan Village in the Kocakoç Subdistrict of Tunceli. It covers an area of ca. 120x40 m. The eastern section of the fortress overlooks a declining slope while the northern and southern sections dominate the connection of the same slope with the cliff to the west. The defense walls have been destroyed during different periods, and consequently demolished. The rubble stones mainly seen on the eastern section indicate extent of the destruction. Analysis of sherds collected from the fortress and the vicinity indicates that the fortress was first used during the Urartian Period. It had been uninterruptedly inhabited during the Urartian Period and Middle Age due to its strategic importance. |
