It is situated on a steep hill in the form of a peninsula in the valley of Kura, 500 m south of the Sevimli Village, 18-20 km southeast of the Hanak District in Ardahan. It seems that the fortress was mainly built during the Urartian Period. However, the architectural characteristics have been altered due to the many repairworks it went through until present. To the north of the fortress are some fortification remains, which display characteristic features of the Urartian architecture. There are remains of four buildings on the southern section towards the river, but apparently these buildings were built during a later period. The fortress consists of five units, three of them being still extant. It appears that due to its strategic and protected location, it was in use from the Iron Age for a long period of time with several additions.
