| Strabon stated that during his visit in the region there was a thick toxic vapor in the cave; and the entrance was closed by bars; where any animal crossing these bars immediately died [Strabon 2005:162-163]. This sacred cave underneath the Apollo Temple has been revealed during the excavations of the Italian Excavation team in 1964; and the entrance was re-closed by bars [Ettorre 1987:77;80]. |
