Location: It is located at the ridge; on the upper southern slope of Dereiçi Stream that empties into Sakarya River; 2 km southwest of the Harmancik Cave. |
Structural Properties and formation : Harmancik Cave developed inside the aged limestones. The formation of Çaycuma which consists of sandstone; mudstone; and nummilite is situated above those limestones. The immediate environs of the cave was highly effected by the fault line in NW-SE direction. It is a sinkhole-passage type; fossil; semi-active cave. The cave was developed in NS; and NW-SE directions; and the entrance consists of of a pit shaped narrow chimney. The sinkhole type entrance is Ğ2 m deep. Dariçayiri Cave consists of two sections in terms of different formation; and development periods. The terrace shaped branch which is headed east and the main gallery which is 10-15 m wide; and 3-6.5 high in N-S direction are the firs tsections of the cave that were developed. The passage type gallery has a basin paved with large blocks. On the other hand the narrow gallery in northwest direction is the newest section that was formed. This section's lower end is at Ğ26 m compared to the entrance; and it was developed along a narrow crack; its basin is covered with rough debris; and soil. The cave which is poor in terms of dripstone formations shows characteristics of a multi-period development; and it was developed as a passage type cave in the beginning. The entrance of Dariçayiri entrance was opened through the collapsing of the roof of an old subterranean hollow place. It then became a sinkhole type cave. Water pours into the cave during the rain season. |
